If there was ever a day to be well and truly celebrated in 2020, it’s definitely this one. International Volunteer Day, mandated by the UN General Assembly, is an opportunity to celebrate the efforts and achievements of volunteers whilst promoting the important work that they do.

Rightly so, this year’s campaign focuses on thanking volunteers worldwide for their amazing work  with the message "Together We Can Through Volunteering."

Covid-19 has presented so many challenges that have been eased by the help of volunteers - including those on the Essex Wellbeing Service.

Almost 9,000 vulnerable people who were shielding across Essex were connected through the Essex Wellbeing Service with support from specialist providers, local community hubs and over 3500 volunteers. Without our amazing volunteers, thousands of vulnerable people could have been left to struggle with loneliness and essential everyday tasks.

The value of volunteers has been clearly shown in the Covid-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan where WHO identifies community volunteers as key stakeholders for risk communication and community engagement.

We’d like to personally thank each and every volunteer for their selfless service that helps towards creating a safer and happier community.
